February meeting - Aesthetics of Framing

It's almost time for our February meeting and I hope to see a great turnout at Ponte Vedra this Saturday.

For the upcoming February meeting, the subject will be the Aesthetics of Framing. Our guest will be a local framer who will discuss making selections of frames for your work. Sometimes we may have a difficult time choosing the right frame that best complements our artwork--material, color, style, mat or not to mat.

He has asked that we submit images of artwork that we will bring to the meeting for him to user as examples. Please send Carron Wedlund a few images for this purpose and bring those paintings to the meeting.  It can be paintings you can't decide how to frame OR images of paintings you are submitting for the Anthem Lakes exhibit. The images you send Carron can be low resolution or the image sizing we submit for entering shows.

He will begin his talk promptly at 10:00 so lets plan on all being there earlier.

And don't forget your Anthem Lakes paintings! It should be a great show!

First 2019 paint-out

We were lucky this year for the first plein air of 2019, held at beautiful Princess Place Preserve in Flagler County. It is situated on the banks of the Matanzas River, and offers stunning views. The weather was crisp and cool, but more pleasant that last year when we tried to go to Kingsley Plantation in January, and it never got above the mid-30s!

A jacket felt nice with the cool breezes coming off the river, but the sun kept it pleasant. We had a nice turn-out of members including a couple guests from the Flagler plein air group.

Setting up with river views seemed to be the most popular choice for most of us.

Though a few turned their direction inward to the beautiful lodge that sits on the riverbank.

This beautiful great blue heron stayed motionless in this same location for the entire morning, as if he were posing and hoped someone would choose to paint him.

As usual, at the end of the morning, we broke for lunch and chose to use all the fine rocking chairs on the porch of the lodge. And, as usual, we had a show and tell after lunch for folks willing to share.

I didn't get everyone of course, and the usual caveat applies that these are in varying stages of completion, but here are some of the paintings from the morning.

Princess Place

What:    Princess Place Paintout
When:   Saturday, January 5, 9 AM to 1 PM
Where:  Princess Place Preserve, Palm Coast, FL

It's time to kick off 2019 with our first paintout of the new year. It will be cool in the morning but it's supposed to be sunny, and warming to the mid 60s, so should be a pleasant day for painting. Princess Place is in Flagler County, exit 298 off I-95. South on US 1, then left on N. Old Kings Rd, then another left on Princess Place Rd, then down a LONG dirt road to the parking lot by the lodge on the edge of the water.

Admission is free and it's a beautiful location with plenty of super plein air opportunities. Lots of great places along the water of course.

Maybe even wildlife viewing.

Peaceful paths and trails through the woodlands. Something for everyone. Don't forget to bring a picnic lunch! We usually break about 11:30 or so to share a meal, and show and tell of our artwork for those inclined to share. See you there.
