First 2019 paint-out

We were lucky this year for the first plein air of 2019, held at beautiful Princess Place Preserve in Flagler County. It is situated on the banks of the Matanzas River, and offers stunning views. The weather was crisp and cool, but more pleasant that last year when we tried to go to Kingsley Plantation in January, and it never got above the mid-30s!

A jacket felt nice with the cool breezes coming off the river, but the sun kept it pleasant. We had a nice turn-out of members including a couple guests from the Flagler plein air group.

Setting up with river views seemed to be the most popular choice for most of us.

Though a few turned their direction inward to the beautiful lodge that sits on the riverbank.

This beautiful great blue heron stayed motionless in this same location for the entire morning, as if he were posing and hoped someone would choose to paint him.

As usual, at the end of the morning, we broke for lunch and chose to use all the fine rocking chairs on the porch of the lodge. And, as usual, we had a show and tell after lunch for folks willing to share.

I didn't get everyone of course, and the usual caveat applies that these are in varying stages of completion, but here are some of the paintings from the morning.
